چکیده
UNLABELLED Review vallecular cysts and report the surgical management of a vallecular cyst of unusual size with near-complete obliteration of the airway. This case report describes an unusually large mucus retention cyst in an 8-week-old infant that was diagnosed during induction of general anesthesia and prevented visualization of airway. Intubation was performed after rapid aspiration of the cyst contents. CONCLUSION Vallecular cysts can present as a life-threatening obstruction in infants and complicate the establishment of an airway after induction of anesthesia. In our case, rapid thinking and aspiration of the cyst contents helped establish the airway for definitive CO2 laser excision.

متن کاملDifficult intubation in a patient with vallecular cyst.
Although rare, vallecular cysts can have catastrophic consequences in an anaesthetised patient if airway management is inappropriate. We report a case of difficult intubation in a 46-year-old man with a vallecular cyst, and detail the methods and strategies for successful endotracheal tube insertion. Following a review of the current literature, we also discuss airway management options in adul...
متن کاملAn Unusual Presentation of Vallecular Cyst with near Fatal Respiratory Distress and Management Using Conventional Laparoscopic Instruments
Vallecular cyst is a rare cause of upper airway obstruction in infants and children and presentation like acute stridor with near fatal respiratory distress is extremely rare. It is one of the rare causes of difficult intubation, during which cyst aspiration can improve the access. Vallecular cyst is commonly managed using microlaryngoscope and specialized instruments. We hereby report a method...
